New York - Valentine's Day promotions and seasonal clearance sales helped push comps up 2.7% last week following a 2.5% gain in the prior week, according to The Johnson Redbook Retail Sales Index.
"At the beginning of the week some retailers noted customer traffic and sales slowed on Sunday due to the Super Bowl as shoppers' attention was diverted," said Catlin Levis, Redbook analyst. "Sales did, however, pick up modestly toward the end of the week as Valentine's Day approaches."
Valentine's Day is one day later than last year, which is expected to push some related sales into this fiscal week.
