Bon-Ton board elects Bergren chairman

York, Pa. - The board of directors of regional department store chain The Bon-Ton Stores Inc. has elected Bud Bergren as its chairman, effective Feb. 7 - the day after he is set to retire from his eight years as president and ceo of the company.
The board has also accepted Tim Grumbacher's resignation as executive chairman.
Grumbacher remains a director of the company and was named strategic initiatives officer. Additionally, Brendan Hoffman, recently appointed president and ceo effective Feb. 7, was elected a director of the company.
Bergren has served as president and ceo of Bon-Ton since August 2004. He originally joined the company in November 2003 in conjunction with its acquisition of The Elder-Beerman Stores Corp., where he served as president and ceo from February 2002 through August 2004. Bergren was appointed vice chairman of Bon-Ton in November 2003.
