Hitting the Road Again

IT IS THAT TIME of year again fellow textile aficionados. It is the January rush of international trade shows! Pack your bags and get your passports ready.
If you are one of the lucky people who have not had your travel budget slashed, perhaps you are reading this at Heimtextil. Heimtex, as it has come to be known, may not be what it once was, but what is?
Changing times call for changing business models. Is the exhibition now 1) a place to find innovative design, 2) a sourcing show, 3) a meeting location, 4) a resource for "green" fabrics, or 5) a growth market for contract goods? Whatever it has come to mean to you, undeniably Heimtex is still a key player in the business.
And if you haven't checked out its Asian sister Intertextile Shanghai, which takes place in August, you may be in for a surprise.
There are other shows to keep on your radar as well.
From Frankfurt we journey on up to Hannover, visiting Domotex to run through the latest offerings in the floor covering business. Take some allergy pills; the dust can be brutal in certain halls.
After that it is on to imm cologne, where the cross pollination of furniture and fabrics has made this a platform for textiles names such as Création Baumann, Kinnasand, and Jab Anstoetz. Have a glimpse at the Kölner Dom, a cathedral with a magical façade lit in the evening. Stop by Doctors for its famous drink of the same name.
Get ready to cross the border from Germany into France. Having the global reputation of being the crème de la crème, Maison & Objet, is still worth a gander, although it isn't as well curated as it once was. Paris Déco Off is definitely a circuit worthy of cutting your visit to Parc des Expositions short by a day in order to peruse the local showrooms and retailers. Rest your feet at the renowned Café de Flore for some fantastic people watching, or head over to Prescription Cocktail Club to be one with the ‘in' crowd and contemplate all you have seen on your whirlwind tour.
This month there are also exhibitions in the U.K., Sweden, and Belgium, but leave those to my team and me to cover, giving you some time to breathe. January is a flurry of activity, setting the tone for the year to come. May it be a prosperous one for you and yours!
We would love your feedback!
