Amazon launches AR app
November 2, 2017,
PALO ALTO, Calif. - Amazon launched this week an augmented reality (AR) app for iPhones: ARView, which lets shoppers virtually view an item in their iPhone camera’s view of a space.
Because it was developed with Apple’s AR software development kit (ARKit), ARView works only on Apple devices with iOS 11.
To use ARView, shoppers call up the Amazon app and tap the camera icon, as they would to scan barcodes and perform visual searches. Choose ARView from the menu, and swipe through a top menu to select a product category.
Within the product category, tap a product image, and a 3D image will be overlayed onto whatever space is in the phone camera’s view. Using their fingertips on the iPhone’s display, shoppers can move the 3D images and rotate them 360 degrees.
