Macy's to keep 14 units open for 83 hours nonstop for countdown to Christmas Day

Home Textiles Today Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 12/12/2011 11:07:59 AM

New York - Macy's Inc. is bringing back its round-the-clock shopping later this month for another holiday season as it gets ready to open 14 stores for 83 hours straight leading to Dec. 25.

The shopping marathon kicks off at 7 a.m. Dec. 21, when 14 Macy's stores in six states open their doors through 6 p.m. Christmas Eve, Dec. 24.

Calling it "a customer convenience during the hectic holiday season," Macy's said it will extend hours at 27 additional Macy's stores in five states, leaving them open until 2 a.m. on those same three nights. This is up from last year's 18 stores that were open later.

In 2006, the company's Queens Center store in New York was the first Macy's store to open 24-hours for the holiday season. "Due to its unprecedented success," Macy's said, it added additional store locations the following years.

Ron Klein, Macy's chief stores officer, noted that the 24-hour open stores "have been a hit with holiday shoppers for the past five years. Our customers have told us when they want to shop, and after-hours and overnight shopping comes out a clear winner as the countdown to Christmas gets closer.
