Mexico City - Jacquard fabric mill Unidad Textile Puente, which celebrates its 70th anniversary next year, has opened an office and a distribution center in North Carolina.
The UTP-America office is located in Winston-Salem. The high-tech distribution facility - TSG Synthetics in Hickory - will offer weekly FOB shipments to reduce freight costs for North American accounts accounts.
"The opening of UTP-America, addressing customers in the United States & Canada, represents a very important goal for us to improve the service to our customers and expand geographical boundaries as part of our long range strategic plan for growth," said Enrique Gabayet Manzano, the company's third generation owner and weaver.
The mill currently has eight independent sales reps in the U.S. and Canada. Its North American sales and marketing is headed by Don Frail Associates, whose principal is a veteran of the textiles and upholstery furniture industries.
UTP-America also has a showroom in the Suites at Market Square, space L-528, and will introduce its 2012 line there during the upcoming Showtime Fabric Fair.
"Our mill being on the same continent as our customer provides us the ability to reduce lead times, order minimums and inventory projections associated with offshore suppliers," said Gabayet. "Our goal is to make life simpler for customers."
