Cincinnati - Macy's and Bloomingdale's stores plan to accelerate the use of radio frequency identification technology in merchandise, with RFID tags imbedded in frequently replenished goods in all stores by the third quarter of 2012.
The company began testing RFID two years ago. When implemented, the amount of RFID-tagged product will account for about 30% of total sales. Categories targeted include men's furnishings, intimate apparel, men's slacks, denim and women's shoes.
