Deesan opens N.Y. space

Home Textiles Today Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 9/23/2011 10:56:04 AM

At the New York Market - Bath and bedding manufacturer Deesan, headquartered in Mumbai, India, has opened a showroom at 295 Fifth Ave.
The company's slogan is "From Farm to Fashion," and Deesan has a long-standing relationship of working with the farmers that grow cotton for its products.
"Today we are working with some 21,000 small farmers," said Anurag Sharma, president and ceo. "Since we supply the seeds, we know the quality of cotton that should be produced."
All the cotton used in Deesan's products is grown within about 25 miles of its production facilities. The mill's major market for home and apparel is currently Europe. In the U.S., it is targeting primarily wholesale accounts, although it will work directly with retailers where required.
The company currently does $150 million, but has its sights on growing to $1 billion in annual sales by 2020.
"We believe India is in the best position to gain in the transition from west to east," Sharma said.
