How do you define your personal style?
Judy Ross at the launch party of her new line with HSN for Garnet Hill.
Simple and chic. I love to have a minimal look but with just the right touch. I prefer to buy one great, expensive and well-made purchase than a lot of less expensive items that will not last. My home is full of beautiful pieces from my home collection, my collaboration with Garnet Hill and other designers that I love.
A Rachel Comey denim jumpsuit. I always wanted a uniform to wear so I could just put something on in the morning and not have to think. It really is very of-the-moment, and I can dress it up or dress it down.
What’s the thing you’d really love to buy next?
Another Celine bag. I love the multi-colored leather bags in very constructed styles and also the looser shopping-bag styles. Recently, there was an amazing chocolate brown leather color by Celine that I loved and wanted.
What’s your oldest possession, something you would hate to part with?
Back to Nature: Fauna is one of two spring bedding collections for Garnet Hill.
What’s something about you most people would be surprised to hear?
I enjoy the mornings in my apartment, especially once everyone has gone to school or work and I am alone. I love to put the music on really loud, especially some of my favorite songs from Elvis Costello, 10,000 Maniacs and The Stones, and just dance around my apartment…barefoot on the silk shag rug I made for my living room.
What is your favorite place?
I love Paris. I happen to have two sons who are half French. In the early ’90s I was designing embroidered shawls and scarves, and sold to all the best shops there. I was hired by a French ready-to-wear company to travel and stay in Paris three months a year and design embroideries. That was a wonderful five years of working in Paris. The studio was right next to the Palais Royal.
What’s your favorite meal and where do you like to have it?
The blue-and-gray Brushstroke is the program’s second bedding collection, which is made of Supima cotton.
Chilean sea bass in a broth with bok choy. They serve it at the restaurant Indochine, which is in my neighborhood.
What are you currently reading, watching or checking out online?
“The Crown” on Netflix. My mom is English, so I love to catch up on the history of the monarchs.
If you hadn’t chosen the career you have, what would you have been instead?
I would have been a painter and hopefully shown in galleries by now. I studied painting and printmaking in college. I try to sketch each day and hope to one day have more time to paint.
