Target to debut hand-crafted home collection
April 20, 2017,
Minneapolis – Target’s flipping the playbook for spring, normally its season for limited-run collaborations with high-profile brands such as Lily Pulitzer and Marimekko.
This time, Target is going global and hand-crafted in partnership with online marketplace Accompany, whose fair-trade mission dovetails with Target’s efforts to communicate its responsible souring bona fides.
The Target/Accompany collection includes this herringbone throw made in Bhagalpur, India. Retail: $88.
“We have access to incredible handicrafts and the indigenous materials they are made from,” said Julie Guggemos, senior vice president of product design and development at Target.
Target involved Nest in developing the collection. The NGO monitors social compliance programs involving global artisans and home workers.
“Accompany’s mission is to build income-generating opportunities for local people across the developing world,” said Jason Keehn, founder, Accompany. “Traditional crafts and indigenous methods for creating products are being lost every day, and we aim to support the livelihood and communities of these craftspeople by connecting their goods with a wide consumer base.”
