NEW YORK - Consumers anticipating spring and/or spring break helped boost comps during the third week of March, according to the Johnson Redbook.
The Johnson Redbook Retail Sales Index rose 2.4% for the week ended March 19, with comps in the department store sector up 4.5% and same-store sales at discount up 1.4%.
"Sales of spring apparel, especially swimwear, have been active as a lot of people are getting ready for spring break and vacations in sunny destinations. Sales of lawn and garden goods did well," said Catlin Levis, Redbook analyst.
