New York - As the first wave of product created in the era of higher costs rolls into the market, the industry is getting a look at some of the misleading claims retailers are putting out to make cheaper products appear more luxurious than they are.
Amazon is offering a polyester sheet set it labels as "Egyptian Quality 1200 Count Luxury Solid Sheet Set." The price: $27.00. The product description identifies the construction as "100 percent Egyptian Quality micro fiber."
Similarly, Restoration Hardware this spring has trumpeted a line of "Vintage Washed Belgian Linen Bedding," which packaging reveals to have been made in India. The Belgian claim is made because the threads were "made from Belgian flax seeds."
Since more "pants on fire" product is surely headed to stores, HTT invites its readers to share with us examples of misleading or fraudulent claims they're finding in the marketplace. Email them to editor-in-chief Jennifer Marks at email@example.com.
