Crate and Barrel takes a page from Wayfair

Partners with RevCascade to launch marketplace

Crate and BarrelNorthbrook, Ill. – Crate and Barrel is tapping into the global market to expand its assortment of unique products, which will be drop-shipped by vendors without touching Crate’s warehouses.

The retailer partnered with RevCascade to launch the program, known internally as the "Crate and Barrel Exclusive Marketplace." But you won’t find a “Marketplace” tab on Crate’s site. The product is selected by Crate’s merchants and seamlessly integrated into the full assortment.

“On the one hand, you have a pure marketplace operator like Wayfair. It offers 7 million skus from 7,000 brands,” said Josh Wexler, co-founder and ceo of RevCascade. The marketplace platform, he said, “let’s any retailer offer a better shopping experience from their web sites.”

He declined to disclose how many products Crate is adding to its assortment through the marketplace. In announcing the partnership, Crate said it is bringing in:

  • Curated products from new brands
  • New products from existing brands
  • Additional product categories that complement existing products
  • Exclusive products only available to Crate and Barrel
  • One-of-a-kind, high-end products from designers around the world
