Hohenstein Institute to cite benefits of sustainability in textiles at STA's Winter Technical Seminar

Home Textiles Today Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 2/9/2011 12:43:28 PM

Burlington, N.C. - Textile testing and certification service provider The Hohenstein Institute America will discuss the value of sustainable practices within the industry at the upcoming Southern Textile Association's Winter Technical Seminar later this month.

Dr. Sam Moore, the institute's managing director, will present "Creation of Sustainable Value in Textile Markets" to define sustainability within the context of the textile industry. He will make the business case for increasing sustainability in textile production in the short and long terms and provide steps to transition supply chains to more sustainable platforms. Also, the role of governmental regulation, product safety testing, and independent, third party textile certifications, like the Oeko-Tex Standard 100, will be examined.

The event is scheduled Feb. 23 from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at The Textile Technology Center in Belmont, NC.

"Sustainability is so much more than just environmental responsibility," said Moore. "When textile companies define sustainability correctly and align their supply chains and business practices to be more sustainable, they reap many benefits. Not only does the company see financial gains, but employees, customers, and the industry benefit as well."

The STA's Winter Technical Seminar will feature other expert speakers from businesses, industry organizations, and universities. More information is available at STA's website -- http://www.southerntextile.org/Upcoming_Events.html.
