Surya kicks off its year-long 35th anniversary celebration this week at Atlanta markets

Calhoun, Ga. - Rugs and coordinates house Surya Inc. is dedicating 2011 to the celebration of its 35th anniversary in business, and is kicking off its year-long festivities this week during the Atlanta International Area Rug Market at the AmericasMart.

The first party is set for Friday at the Downtown Atlanta Ritz-Carlton Hotel in the grand ballroom. Industry friends are invited to partake in cocktails, a catered dinner and live music.

Surya has seven more parties planned for the remainder of the year with fetes at the other markets in New York, Las Vegas, High Point and Atlanta in which the company participates.

Originally an area rug house, India-based Surya was founded by Surya Tiwari in 1976 in the northeastern village of Ugapur. Ten years later, the company set up its first U.S.-based office and warehouse in New York. Then in 2001, Surya was relocated to Calhoun, Ga., where it continues to operate its U.S. headquarters - corporate offices and warehouses.

The founder's mission originally was to establish a company that would help support and provide income for his family and local villagers. Since its humble beginnings, Surya has grown into a major rug exporter - a vertically integrated manufacturer -- in India and suppliers to the U.S. and international markets.

Its product roster in recent years has expanded beyond just area rugs to now include accent rugs, wall décor, and home textiles accessories.

"We are grateful for the support our customers have given us over the years," said Satya Tiwari, president. "We hope everyone will have a chance to come to at least one of our events this year. We want to celebrate and honor them throughout the year to thank them for everything they have done to help make us the company we are today."
