Monroe, NC - Perfect Fit Industries on Thursday will open a new pillow factory here designed using lean manufacturing concepts and zero waste production principals.
Built with a capital investment of more than $2 million, the plant will become one of the largest pillow manufacturing operations in the United States, according to the company, which was acquired earlier this year by private equity firm The Anderson Group of Bloomfield Hills, Mich.
During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Perfect Fit president and coo Dan Hammer proclaimed Monroe "the pillow capital of the United States." The plant has the capacity to produce more than 20 million pillows per year.
The plant is part of a larger corporate strategy to increase domestic manufacturing.
"Lean manufacturing has lowered our costs, allowing us to bring several products we currently make offshore back to the U.S.," says John Beliveau, senior vp of operations. "We anticipate this trend will continue as labor and transportation costs continue to increase overseas."
Congratulations to Dan, Jeff, and all the Perfect Fit associates in this great move forward in US manufacturing.
