Sferra, Peter Som bring the runway to bedding with new spring collection

HTT Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 12/7/2010 3:56:42 PM

New York - Luxury linens house Sferra has partnered with prêt-a-porter designer Peter Som for a new modern collection of bedding linens.

"I'm thrilled to see my prints and inspirations transformed from the runway to bedding in the way only Sferra can," Som said. "They are an ideal partner for this evolution of our brand."

Sferra described Som's style for the collection as "sophisticated yet quirky prints" that create "a brand new way of bed dressing."

Sferra owner Paul Hooker called Som "a rare talent whose vivid prints leap off the runway and translate beautifully into the home or elsewhere. We are incredibly excited about this collaboration and are delighted to be brining Peter's unique look into people's homes."

Set to debut in stores March 2011, the collection launches with four signature beds that comprise sheeting, matelassés, quilts, duvet covers, accent pillows and shams. The pieces are printed in Italy, and the design of each bed was made to reflect Som's "splashy yet refined ready- to-wear collections from past seasons," Sferra explained.

The Chrysanthemum bed is a 100% Italian Egyptian cotton percale printed with large lilac flowers, dotted with greens and blues. The duvet covers and shams have flanged edges and are finished with a plain hem, for understated elegance. This design was inspired by 1940's French seaside images of Lartigue and blends it with "a touch" of Japanese imagery.

The Newport Floral bed is an all-over floral print that Sferra described as "transformed by two radically different colors." In Avocado, the 100% Italian Egyptian cotton percale features bright pink accents across the duvet covers and shams. In Blue, the flowers and leaves present a dreamy and elegant landscape. Drawn from Som's spring/summer 2007 collection, Newport Floral is a modern take on Marie Antoinette with its bold and graphic interpretation of a very traditional print. The duvet covers and shams have flanged edges and are finished with a plain hem.

The Damask bed, a 100% Italian Egyptian cotton percale with a traditional damask pattern, is printed out in white on a cool gray background. The duvet cover and shams have flanged edges and are finished with a plain hem. Also based on Som's spring/summer 2007 collection, this period wallpaper-inspired damask is the designer's interpretation of the wall décor in the drawing rooms of the Versailles Palace. The bed is the most tonal and nuanced in the collection and is equally at home in a modern or traditional bedroom.

In 100% Italian Egyptian cotton percale, the PS I Love You sheeting is in myriad colors, each featuring a lyrical hand calligraphy message, interconnected to create a lattice-like effect. The Pick Stitch sheeting was made to offer another option to complete the ensemble.

Two top of bed options are available - the Astrid Matelasse blanket cover and the Peony quilt. The former is made of 100% cotton and depicts a subtle diamond-and-stripe pattern, and the latter is a soft 100% cotton quilt with a 100% cotton fill.

Decorative accessories include five different 100% linen pillows -- Monogram, Chepstow, Trellis, Bloom and Isabella, each of which features embroidery work.
