Houston- Mattress Firm and Protect-A-Bed are joining forces to raise money to fight pancreatic cancer.
During National Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month in November, a portion of the proceeds from all Protect-A-Bed product sales at any Mattress Firm store will go to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and the Translational Genomics Research Institute to fund research to save lives.
Mattress Firm also is inviting the public to donate online at www.firstgiving.com/mattfirmandpab. All funds raised go to PanCan, a nationwide network of people working together to advance research, support patients and create hope for those affected by pancreatic cancer.
"Pancreatic cancer has no boundaries and so we are proud to partner with Protect-a-Bed for company-wide effort to do our part to help find a cure," said Karrie Forbes, vice president of marketing for the Top 100 bedding specialist, with more than 600 stores in 22 states. "Pancreatic cancer takes far too many lives every year, and we hope that our contributions can aid in the effort for medical breakthroughs in early detection, sustainable treatment and a cure."
James Bell, CEO of Protect-A-Bed, a producer of mattress protectors, added, "By joining forces with Mattress Firm, PanCan and TGen for this special in-store promotion, I am confident we will help researchers get one step closer to finding a cure for one of the nation's deadliest forms of cancer."
Pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States and has the highest mortality rate of any of the major cancers with only 5% of those affected surviving longer than five years. An estimated 43,140 men and women will be diagnosed with the disease and 36,800 will die of it this year.
