Target taps Zabel to head government affairs

Minneapolis -- Target Corporation has brought on board Matt Zabel as the discount department store chain's vp, government affairs.
His post is effective August 23. Based in Washington D.C., he is charged with overseeing teams in both here at headquarters as well as in D.C.
Zabel, 42, comes to Target from U.S. Senator John Thune's office, where he served as chief of staff since 2004. Prior to that, he held various positions with the U.S. Senate, the U.S. Department of Justice and was an adjunct professor of law at George Mason University.
Zabel received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of South Dakota, a Master of Science in International Relations from the University of Bristol, England, and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Northwestern University School of Law.
"Matt brings broad knowledge on a range of important policy issues and significant experience within the legislative process to his new role," said Tim Baer, evp and general counsel. "We are pleased to welcome Matt to Target and look forward to his leadership and future contributions at the company."
