Macy's to launch Sean John

Home Textiles Today Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 6/4/2010 12:01:22 PM

New York - Macy's will launch the first entry of the Sean John brand into the home furnishings market with the October debut of three beds.

The collection "has been in the works for a year and a half," commented Jeff Kantor, president, gmm, home for the department store chain, prior to the announcement last month that Macy's will become the exclusive U.S. department store retailer for the Sean John mens sportswear collection beginning holiday 2010.

Revman International is the licensee for the bedding group that Richard Roman, president, describes as "catering to a more upbeat sophisticated urban customer and is truly a reflection of Sean "Diddy" Combs' taste."

The first three beds, explained Roman, "have textural interest and fovus on shades of grays, blues, browns and plum. The designs are 2320 count cotton sateen and will be featured in mini-comforter sets - a comforter and two shams - with retails for the full/queen at $250.

The beds - Saville Row, Alpine and Ciroc - are inspired by elements of the menswear collection and feature embroidered monogram logos and a signature crown in subtle colors.

Combs commented "we're thrilled to introduce these items and to have this amazing partnership with Revman as part of our strategy to develop our overall lifestyle brand under the Sean Jean label. Having their expertise in production and sales coupled with Sean Johns's fashion aesthetic essentially guarantees us success."

"I'm really happy with the way the launch group has turned out," added Roman . "The Sean John people have done a great job marketing the brand."

Sean John made its debut in 1990 with a men's sportswear collection created by music icon Sean "Diddy" Combs. Over the years it has expanded into fragrances. The Revman license marks the company's entry into the home arena.

The bedding ensembles "cater more to a more masculine look as well as some more ethnic influence," said Kantor. The pricing, he added, will be beneath the Lauren Ralph Lauren brand.

Two of the beds will have broad placement across Macy's stores with one bed in more limited distribution, Roman said. The beds will later be distributed to other department stores as well as the Sean John flagship store on Fifth Avenue here, the company said.
