P/Kaufmann Sells Bennettsville

Victor Winogradow, owner of Decorative Screen Printers, has purchased the printing and finishing facility of P/Kaufmann located in Bennettsville, S.C.

Kaufmann, which built the facility some 15 years ago as a joint venture with Pausa, a German printer now out of business, has been operating the facility on its own for the past seven or eight years, said Ron Kaufmann, ceo.

With the sale, Decorative Screen Printers is moving from its facility in Norwich, Conn. to Bennettsville, and will operate under that name.

“I'm thrilled with the change,” Kaufmann commented. “The facility is our primary printer in the U.S., and we do about 80% of our printing here, though the greige goods are almost exclusively imports.”

For Decorative Screen Printers, “Kaufmann wanted to sell and we became very interested,” said Bob Leibowitz, director of sales.

The move from Norwich to Bennettsville was a simple decision, Leibowitz added. “It's a state-of-the art plant in terms of equipments; it's near the sources for prep work; and the taxes and environmental issues were more attractive.”

The company will continue to focus on its core business — a vat printing facility for home furnishings fabrics, specializing in short runs and high-end product for volume, Leibowitz said. In the future, consideration may be given for other end use products.

The DSP organization is now running the Bennettsville plant. Purchase price was not disclosed.
