Cargill takes an interest in Cargill Dow

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 2/17/2005 12:36:00 PM

MINNETONKA , Minn. — Cargill has acquired the 50 percent interest in Cargill Dow LLC owned by Dow Chemical Co. and has renamed the company NatureWorks LLC.

NatureWorks markets the resin NatureWorks PLA and the fiber Ingeo that are proprietary corn-based plastic resin. The two companies formed a joint venture in 1997 to commercialize polylactic acid biopolymers as an annually renewable resource for plastic and fabrics.

Ingeo fibers currently are used in decorative fabrics for the contract market, in bedding, bed pillows, and mattress pads and in Europe in mattresses.

The newly named company will function as a standalone company owned by Cargill.
