Ptex won't sell bath plant

Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 12/17/2001 12:00:00 AM

Pillowtex Corp. announced last week that it would not sell off its bath rug manufacturing plant located in Scottsboro, AL.

The major mill had explored selling off the plant in light of its reorganization under Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

The plant employs 269 people and produces cotton and acrylic bath rugs and bathroom accessories such as toilet seat and tank covers. It has been part of Pillowtex's bath division since 1969.

"It now makes better business sense to keep Scottsboro in the Pillowtex family," said Tony Williams, president and coo. "Our management team and creditors all agree that bath rugs should continue to be part of our product mix and will continue to be produced in Scottsboro."

Williams added that the sale of the plant was considered in order to help the company get back in "good financial shape. I am pleased that it appears we will not have to make that drastic step."
