Trident Expanding Production Capacity

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 11/12/2007 12:00:00 AM

Bhopal, India —Trident/Abhishek Industries has launched construction of a new spinning and weaving factory at Bundi in Madhya Pradesh that will put the sizeable towel manufacturer into the sheet business. The $5 million facility is expected to begin production in spring 2009.

In its first phase, the plant will house over 100,000 spindles geared toward value-added yarns and those used in finer counts of cotton, as well as 400 looms devoted to wide-width sheeting. The sheeting capacity will be 100,000 meters per day.

“The new facility will provide us economies of scale and help in catering to the captive consumption by our textile division as well as the niche markets in India and abroad for maximum value addition,” said Rajinder Gupta, ceo and managing director.

The spinning operation will double the company's yarn capacity and expand Trident's domestic yarn market in other parts of India. Trident's towel production currently consumes 40% of its own yarn output; the rest is sold into the domestic and export markets. In phase two of the operation, the Bundi facility will expand to 200,000 spindles.

Finally, a significant section of the 700-acre property on the banks of the Narmada River will be devoted to an agro-tech project as well as training local farmers in modern production techniques.
