China Textile & Apparel Show back in NY

Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 5/28/2001 12:00:00 AM

NEW YORK — The 2001 China Textile & Apparel Show will take place June 6 to 8, at the Jacob Javits Convention Center here.

According to Richard Gould of Specialty Trade Shows Inc., based here, last year's show was "the first large-scale, active China textile trade show that appeared in the U.S." He added that it "was enormously successful, way beyond our expectations with well over a half a billion dollars in orders. This year we anticipate even greater interest, attendance and business by American retailers, importers, wholesalers, manufacturers and other buyers."

This year's show is expected to draw some 200 manufacturers from China. The heightened interest is because this is the first such trade show since the U.S. Congress voted to accord China permanent normal trade relations status, a prerequisite for China's entry into the World Trade Organization, said Zhang Yankai, vice chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, Sub-Council of Textile industry.

"This show will provide American buyers with a unique opportunity to meet their counterparts from China for the first time since the trade relationship between the two countries attained this historic standing," he noted.

Home textiles items will include bedding, bath, kitchen, curtains, rugs and table linens.
