WestPoint to Debut Betsey Johnson Collection

By Michele SanFilippo -- Home Textiles Today, 12/19/2005 12:00:00 AM

West Point, Ga. — WestPoint Home has just inked a licensing agreement with New York fashion designer Betsey Johnson for a full line of branded bedding and bath products.

Johnson will bring her signature look to sheets, comforters, blankets, bedding accessories, towels and bath accessories produced by WestPoint Home, with an anticipated late fall 2006 or spring 2007 shipping date for the first collection.

“This is a very exciting alliance for WestPoint Home,” said CEO Joseph Pennacchio. “Betsey Johnson is an iconic figure in fashion, known for clothes that are eclectic, hip and savvy. Her unique interpretation of design that's exuberant, embellished and over-the-top has kept her on the cutting edge of design since the '60s. She's noted especially for her ability to change with the times while remaining true to her own design concepts.”

Pennacchio predicted, “It will resonate with both young consumers just discovering Betsey Johnson and those who have continued to appreciate and grow with her through the years.”

According to Johnson, she's “been dying to do home!” She emphasized, “It's my favorite sideline hobby, as I have intensely decorated each of my homes. I chose to work with WestPoint Home, known for its ability to translate a designer's signature style to home fashion products, and its ability to reflect this style in marketing the brand.”

The Betsey Johnson look features “sexy silhouettes,” flowing fabrics, whimsical detailing and tailored fit. Her apparel and accessories are sold in better department and specialty stores, as well as her own shops in America, Europe and Japan. Johnson opened her first franchise store earlier this year in Dubai inside the Middle East's largest shopping center.

Her brand of décor was featured in InStyle Home's April 2005 issue, while her East Hampton residence and New York home have respectively appeared in Celebrity Living and Metropolitan Home.
