Top of bed accompanies Pendleton market debut

Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 3/30/2001 12:00:00 AM

PORTLAND, OR -Making its New York home textiles market debut this week, Pendleton Woolen Mills, a supplier of Native American and Americana blankets, will show off a new Heirloom luxury blanket at its showroom at 214 West 39 St., Suite 1102.

Moving into "top of the bed" fashion bedding, Pendleton is launching the Heirloom wool blanket, a solid-color bed blanket engineered for a softer hand. In white only, the Heirloom targets the top of the line with a retail ranging from $124 to $164.

The new Heirloom blanket complements the ongoing Frontier and Cambridge bed blanket collections. The popular Yakima Camp Blanket, a 64" x 84", weighs in with five colors at a retail of about $60.

In throws, Pendleton has redesigned seven of its 11 styles, focusing on fashion patterns and colors. The company's long-standing line of motor robes, with a retail of about $54, features a new double-twisted fringe.

A new Heritage Collection taps into the company's early archives of Native American looks. Also new are king-size shams in red, white and dark green to coordinate with several collections. Tapping into a new market, Pendleton also comes up with a group of novelty embroidered pillows, including a fly-fishing motif.

Pendleton's new Legendary Blanket, which pays tribute to its long-standing relationship with Native Americans, is titled "They Sang for Horses," a design based on the Navajo legend of Johano-aii, a Navajo holy person whose choice of horse determines the weather for the day. Also new are six designs in the Native American robe collection and dance shawls in two sizes, now featuring a shorter fringe and a softer hand.
