Hans-Felix Biederlack Dies at 73

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 2/21/2005 12:00:00 AM

Hans-Felix Biederlack, managing director of Hermann Biederlack GmbH and Biederlack of America, based in Cumberland, Germany, died suddenly of a heart attack on Feb. 13 at the age of 73.

Along with his cousin, Robert Biederlack, who has now retired from the company, Hans-Felix was a driving force in the modern German textile industry and principally responsible for the formation and development of Biederlack of America in the United States in 1979.

He began his career in the family business as a business development manager in 1956. In subsequent years, he and Robert, who joined the company in 1967, built Biederlack and its American unit into a major international textiles presence, with combined sales to more than 30 countries worldwide.

In addition to his work, Hans-Felix was active in civic and industry organizations. He had been awarded the Distinguished Service Order of the Federal Republic of Germany.

He was a member of the Greven Town Council and was an honorary judge in the local labor arbitration court. He also served on the German Textile and Fashion Industry Commission.

He is survived by his wife, Beate, five daughters, 12 grandchildren, and his cousin and business partner, Robert Biederlack.
