Los Angeles – Shabby Chic will soon begin liquidation sales, according to documents filed last week in the federal bankruptcy court here. The sale will not include intellectual property, which will remain in the hands of Shabby Chic operator Rachel Ashwell Designs, Inc.
Hilco Merchant Resources will handle sales of Shabby Chic merchandise, which does not include goods held by licensees, sublicenses and concessionaires such as Target, which offers a sub-branded home collection under the name Simply Shabby Chic.
Sales are expected to conclude in early June.
The company was founded 10 years ago and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in late January. According to bankruptcy court filings, Shabby Chic operated eight stores, a distribution center and a manufacturing center. With the exception of two New York stores, all other locations were in California.
Very rarely do you work for a company that you feel really cares about you. I worked for this company. Not only can I say she, Rachel Ashwell, offers the best quality products but she QC the merchandise herself and will go above and beyond to make her customers happy. The company was a really good company to work for. She isn't someone that is money hungry. I never had that feeling about her. She really appreciated her employees and you got that feel from her when she was around. Not a bubbly person...but a kind hearted person. Working for RAD (Rachel Ashwell Designs) was one my best working experiences and I wish her and the company nothing but the best she deserves it!!

I am sad to hear of this. Shabby Chic was a fresh approach to Home Furnishing. Relaxed and pretty it changed the way we all felt about decorating. I look forward to anything she does in the future.

A big dissapointment. Shabby Chic has been an inspiration for so many retailers and decorators. I look forward to Rachel's next project...I know there will be more to come.
