Whiting Manufacturing shuts its doors

FAIRFIELD, Ohio — Whiting Manufacturing is closing down its manufacturing operations, leaving 180 employees out of work in 60 days' time.
The privately held company began producing comforters in 1949 and later expanded into all textile products for the bedroom. Whiting discontinued pillow production in 2000 with the closing of its Cincinnati plant and consolidated operations in its Kentucky facility. The company has been trying to consolidate its business over the last three years.
"We are working with our customers and suppliers to fulfill our commitments," said president and CEO Dick Whiting. "Our production operation is efficient, but we can't really compete with the imports on price."
