NRF's Mullin Named to Advisory Committee

Federation President Selected by President Bush

Washington, D.C — President Bush has named National Retail Federation President and CEO Tracy Mullin to the President's Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations.

ACTPN is the White House's private sector advisory panel on international trade and helps the Administration promote its trade agenda. Members include prominent CEOs of major corporations and trade associations, who consider trade policy issues in the context of the overall national interest and prepare reports on proposed trade agreements for the Administration and Congress.

“This appointment recognizes the importance of the retail industry and consumers in U.S. trade policy,” Mullin said. “Retailers are among our nation's largest importers. While much of the trade debate has focused on U.S. exports, we hope additional consideration can be given to the important role of imports in providing U.S. consumers with the products they need at prices they can afford.”

Mullin has been president and CEO of NRF since 1993 and previously headed NRF's Government and Public Affairs Division. She joined the National Retail Merchants Association — which later merged with the American Retail Federation to form NRF — in 1976.

Mullin previously worked on Capitol Hill as a member of the staff of the late Senate Minority Leader Hugh Scott, R-Pa.

The National Retail Federation, the world's largest retail trade association, represents an industry with more than 1.4 million U.S. retail establishments and 2004 sales of $4.1 trillion.
