Gingerich named chairman at Filene's

St. Louis — The May Department Stores Co. today named William Gingerich chairman of Filene's, its Boston-based department store company.
Effective Sept. 1., Gingerich succeeds Kent McHose, who is retiring Aug. 30 after a 29-year career with May.
Gingerich has been chairman of Kaufmann's since 1999. He joined May in 1984 as controller for Kaufmann's in Pittsburgh and was named divisional vp and then vp in 1986. He was promoted to senior vp of finance in 1990, and to senior vp and assistant to the president of Kaufmann's in 1994.
McHose was named chairman of Filene's in 1997. He joined May in 1973 as vp of corporate accounting. He was named chairman of the former G. Fox division in Hartford, CT, in 1982, of L.S. Ayres in Indianapolis in 1991, and of Famous-Barr in St. Louis in 1994.
