WILLIAMSBURG, VA -The spring 2001 edition of The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation's catalog heralds the arrival of several new products.
New types of bedskirts, bedding ensembles and a new throw pillow are now available to consumers through the catalog as well as a new curtain in either linen or natural hemp.
"We try to feature items which portray the image of the 18th and early 19th centuries as well as items which portray Colonial Williamsburg," said Linda McElroy, public relations associate for the foundation, based here, of the home textile catalog offerings.
The new bedskirts come in two different styles, ruffle and box, and two colors, natural and blue check. They are made to coordinate with already existing and new bedding collections.
One of the new bedding ensembles is called Tulip Quilt. Appliqued tulips in shades of burgundy, pink, fuchsia, butter yellow, sage and moss green decorate this off-white, hand box-quilted, 100 percent cotton ensemble, which is manufactured by C & F Enterprises, Newport News, VA, for Colonial Williamsburg. Moss green stripes adorn the border, while a coordinating green mini-check decorates the bed skirt, European sham and neckroll. Prices range from $160 for a 64" x 86" quilt to $275 for a 100" x 90" king size.
The second of the new ensembles, Summer Idyll, features country scenes in blue on an ivory background and toile bedding. The duvet cover reverses to a blue and ivory check pattern with beige piping. Coordinating European sham, boudoir pillow, neckroll, curtain and valance are also available. Prices range from $265 for a twin duvet to $350 for a king.
"Toile is very popular in our linens," said McElroy. "People identify the toile with Colonial Williamsburg."
Also new is Chloe, a 100-percent cotton ensemble whose design is copied from a French antique quilt. This hand-quilted ensemble is adorned with a floral pattern on a green and salmon pink background and is finished with a scalloped border. The matching quilted shams have tie closures, while the bed skirt and standard shams have a coordinating ticking stripe. Chloe and Summer Idyll were created exclusively for Colonial Williamsburg.
Completing Williamsburg's new items are a 100 percent linen curtain and a 100 percent natural hemp curtain with coordinating valances. Available in several sizes, both may be used as rod pocket curtains or as tab tops. Button and loop tie backs are also used instead of standard tie backs. The linen curtains are available in white or ecru, while the hemp are only offered in beige. Prices range from $40 for the linen valance to $175 for a 84" x 54" hemp curtain.
