Crown Crafts, Disney team up for crib line

Crown Crafts Infant Products, with help from research by Disney, has developed a customizable crib collection designed to cater to Disney-loving parents who want something beyond the standard fare.

The Disney Baby, Nursery by Design line features either a classic Winnie the Pooh motif or a relatively newer Simba (from "The Lion King" movie) pattern. The customizable collection is designed to let consumers choose between a totally character-driven ensemble for an infant's room, a more subtle, pattern-driven offering or a mix of the two.

According to Debra Dunne, vp, design for Crown Crafts Infant Products, which is based here, research conducted by Disney Consumer Products Division found that consumers wanted character-driven ensembles, but they did not want their child's room to be a rubber-stamp copy of their neighbor's. Since Nursery by Design is entirely customizable, the collection gives parents options.

"It can be as 'in your face' as parents want it to be, or it can be much softer, with practically no characters at all," Dunne told Home Textiles Today.

Among the product offerings are a comforter, quilt, two bumpers, three sheets, three dust ruffles, two lamp shades, a lamp, sheer curtains, quilt clips, two mobiles, two 3-D wall hangings and various blankets. Area rugs are in the planning stages. The bedding is constructed from 100 percent, 200-count cotton and is generally sourced from the United States and China. Prices for a comforter start at $39.99.

New packaging has also been developed for the infant line, utilizing the all-inclusive name of Disney Baby. Previously, and like its juvenile cousins, the packaging had featured a character's name as the sole visual point.
