Aaron Greenberg, fabrics icon, dies

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 7/3/2007 11:00:00 AM

New York – Services were held here July 1 for Aaron Greenberg, 75, who died June 30.

Greenberg had retired from the now closed decorative fabrics converter Lanscot-Arlen Co. where he was president and a principal. After retirement he served as a consultant to a number of decorative fabrics companies around the world.

Summing up his impact on both the fabrics business and people in general, Irwin Ginsburg, principal of the former Anju-Woodrige decorative fabrics converter, said, “He was a very unusual man. We lost a big one.”

For Warren Leshen, principal of Dukane Fabrics, “He was the only great man I’ve had the privilege of knowing. He truly had family all over the world; he had such a big heart and a sense of humor. And he listened to your point of view, unlike most people.”

“We lost a good one, a unique individual who was willing to help with anything, whether business or personal,” remarked Stewart Jervis, vp, sales P/Kaufmann. “He was a powerhouse, a great guy, a special guy,” added Bob Woodcock who worked with Greenberg at Lanscot-Arlen and now is with Heritage House. “He was a good guy who attempted to make everyone feel good; there was no pretense and his concern was more for others than himself.”

For Bob Appelbaum, president of Clarence House, “He was a giant of an individual at the time when the industry was most prolific and energetic. He thrived on human contact and always did what he could for you and only asked for friendship. He was a great mentor.”

Greenberg is survived by his wife, Arlene, two sons, a daughter, 10 grandchildren and a brother.
