Wal-Mart.com taps Fleming for president

BENTONVILLE, AK —
Wal-Mart Stores has promoted John Fleming to president and ceo, Walmart.com. Previously coo, he will continue to report to Tom Schoewe, executive vp and cfo, Wal-Mart Stores.
"The Walmart.com program has continued to improve under John's leadership," said Lee Scott, president and ceo of Wal-Mart Stores. "Walmart.com is more deeply integrated with the overall Wal-Mart operation than it has ever been. We are also pleased with the development of our online business."
The company added that the site is experiencing a strong holiday season, particularly in toys, electronics and home, and is seeing significant increases in site traffic and sales over last year.
Fleming joined Walmart.com in 2000, when he became chief merchant, overseeing procurement of merchandise and managing supplier relations. He was previously senior vp of merchandising for Marshall Field's, a division of Target.
"With this team and a clear strategy in place, we will continue to work on deeper integration with our stores and on developing products and services that add value for the Wal-Mart customer," said Fleming.
He succeeds the ceo role formerly held by Jeanne Jackson.
