McMillon to head Wal-Mart International

-- Home Textiles Today, 1/7/2009 2:05:00 PM

Bentonville, Ark. – Doug McMillon, president and ceo of Sam’s Club, will be promoted to president and ceo of Wal-Mart International, effective Feb. 1.

He will report to Mike Duke, who on the same date will assume his new role as Wal-Mart president and ceo, succeeding Lee Scott who is chairman of the executive committee of the board of directors.

“Doug is joining Wal-Mart International at a time of strength and momentum,” said Duke. “We will continue to focus on emerging markets with strong growth potential, as well as established markets that we believe have the potential to deliver consistently strong returns.” The division operates more than 3,300 stores under more than 50 banners in a dozen countries; it accounts for about 25% of total Wal-Mart revenues.

Duke noted that McMillon has spent 18 years with the company, starting as a hourly worker unloading trucks at a distribution center.

McMillon’s successor at Sam’s Club will be named at a later date, the company said.
