Friedman out as coo of Williams-Sonoma

SAN FRANCISCO -Gary Friedman, president and coo of Williams-Sonoma, has resigned.

Friedman, who has been with the company for 13 years, "will pursue other opportunities."

"Gary has made a significant contribution to the growth of Williams-Sonoma over the last 13 years. His creative leadership has played a key role in our success, and I am sorry to see him leave," said Howard Lester, chairman and ceo.

Friedman commented, "Although this has been a difficult decision, my years at Williams-Sonoma have been rewarding, both professionally and personally."

Last month, the company named Dale Hilpert ceo, effective April 1. Lester will remain chairman at that time.
