Montgomery moves up, according to plan

Menomonee Falls, WI — Larry Montgomery has been elected to follow William Kellogg as chairman of the board of Kohl's, in accordance with its succession plan. Kellogg, who had retired from day-to-day operations in January 2001, will continue as a member of the board and was named presiding director of the non-management board meetings.

A 32-year veteran of the industry, Montgomery joined Kohl's in 1988 as senior vp, director of stores and was promoted to executive vp in 1993. He was appointed to the company's board a year later and then was promoted to vice chairman in 1996. He was named ceo in 1999.

The company also announced that Judith Sprieser has joined the board, while Herbert Simon has retired from it.
