Pamida tags Young for home

William Young has been named vp, dmm, home at Pamida stores. He joined Pamida in 1975 as a store manager and rose through the ranks of store operations and loss prevention. Most recently he was director of loss prevention.

Bon Ton to open unit in New York state

The Bon-Ton Stores Inc. announced Friday it has signed a lease to operate a store in Latham, NY, in the New Loudon Center, bringing the roster in New York to 27.

The company, which currently operated 72 stores in the Northeast and parts of the East Coast, will operate this new 65,700-square-foot store in a former Ames space at the strip center, which is anchored by a Marshall's, Price Chopper supermarket, crafts retailer A.C. Moore and outdoor furniture and accessories dealer Club Pro.

The premises will undergo a major renovation and the store is expected to open in the fall of 2003 in time for the holiday shopping season.

Kohl's names new cfo

Kohl's has hired Wesley McDonald as executive vp and cfo. He was previously cfo at Abercrombie and Fitch. At Kohl's McDonald will report to Arlene Meier, coo.

Wal-Mart now accepts checks over the Internet

Wal-Mart announced it will accept online check payments from customers who either don't use credit cards or who prefer to pay with checks for their Internet purchases.

Consumers can enter their checking account information into an encrypted payment process that verifies that account holder's identity.

The new process also allows consumers to handle returns electronically, whether consumers are shipping return merchandise back to walmart.com or returning at their local store.

Bloomies exec becomes Gaylan's pres

Former Bloomingdale's president and coo Edwin Holman has joined Gaylan's Trading Co. as president and coo.

Holman also previously served as president and coo at Rich's/Lazarus/Goldsmiths, another division of Federated Department Stores. Before that he held executive positions with Petrie Retail, Woodward & Lothrop, Carter Hawley Hale, Neiman Marcus and Macy's Midwest.

Gaylan's is a specialty retailer that offers a broad range of product appeals to consumers with active lifestyles, from casual consumers to serious sports enthusiasts.
