AATCC Establishes Two New Student Chapters

The American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC) has founded student chapters at Texas State University-San Marcos in San Marcos, Texas, and at Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM) in Lima, Peru.

Gwendolyn Hustvedt, assistant professor, will serve as the Texas State chapter's faculty advisor. She is also a liaison with Jorge Inche, professor of engineering in the school of industrial engineering at UNMSM, who will serve as faculty advisor for students there.

The schools work together and with major U.S. retailers in areas such as color management and control in order to meet color quality requirements. AATCC student chapter members at UNMSM are pursuing master's degrees in textiles technology and management, and together with Texas State students, they are gaining international product development experience.

"Getting an understanding of all areas of the textile supply chain will help the students succeed in the industry," says Hustvedt, who brings a background in biochemistry and textiles science to the fashion merchandising program at Texas State. "We intend to demonstrate a new model of involvement in the textile industry for university students and AATCC student chapters, in the United States and globally."
