Sphinx expands rug collection

Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 1/8/2001 12:00:00 AM

DALTON, GA -Sphinx, a division of Oriental Weavers, recently unveiled two new collections, Avant Garde and Silken Journey.

The Avant Garde collection includes 10 new designs that feature vibrant colors, including fluorescent orange, crimson, royal blue and violet, with ivory silken impressions. Also, the designs range from geometric to Picasso-like abstract motifs.

"Our designers got their inspiration for the Avant Garde collection from some recent fashion shows they attended in Europe," said Mike Riley, vp of marketing for Sphinx. "Current color trends in the U.S. home furnishings industry also played a role. The result is an array of designs that are very unexpected, [and] which really push the envelope."

The Avant Garde collection is the first the company will manufacture on a new proprietary loom.

"Continuing to be the leader in cutting-edge technology is of utmost importance to us," Riley said. "This new machine offers the latest in loom technology and is extremely advanced in terms of the number of colors it can incorporate into any given design."

Sphinx's Silken Journey collection has 11 offerings based on more traditional looks, like Turkish and Persian styles. They range from Kirman panel to Sarouk designs and include dark blue, burgundy, beige, salmon and various shades of green. Gold and white faux silk material has also been incorporated.

Rugs in the Avant Garde collection will be available in the following sizes: 4' by 5'3", 5'3" by 7'9", and 7'10" by 11'2". The suggested retail price for the 5'3" by 7'9" size is $399.

Rug sizes within the Silken Journey collection include 2'3" by 7'9", 4' by 5'3", 5'3" by 7'9", 7'10" by 11'2" and 10' by 13'. The suggested retail for the 5'3" by 7'9" size is $299.

Both collections are made of a polypropylene/polyester blend and will be available for delivery in March 2001.
