Designer Ket takes fresh new direction

By Carole Sloan -- Home Textiles Today, 3/26/2001 12:00:00 AM

NEW YORK -A fresh, pastel and flowery mood will be one of the key design statements for home furnishings, said Milou Ket, the Dutch designer/forecaster. It's a cutting edge design statement for home furnishings.

In her "Moods for Today's Lifestyles-2002," Ket predicts that there is a new feminine direction-Boudoir-for the home. "It embraces fresh flowers, pastels with white as the melding color."

At the same time, Ket explained, "The look is younger, more frivolous."

Colors trends for Boudoir, she said, are in flower pinks, lilacs, Hortensia blue, celadon, acid yellow, soft lime and soft turquoise.

Important fabrics, she added, will be in the voile, gauze and other transparency constructions.

Moving beyond the softer, more feminine looks, Ket picks Renaissance, "a rich, elegant mood with historical influences."

But she sees the look as "more understated, pared down and not too much or too serious."

Renaissance, she explained, brings shine and shimmer, "as well as hand made looks and one of a kind items."

Important colors for Renaissance are Gustavian blue, silver, off-white in a number of shades, taupe, soft yellow, terra cotta, gold and copper.

In another design family, Ket sees "Lounging" as an important statement, with light and dark combinations, spare with no superfluous decoration.

Overall, for Lounging, she related, "I see simplified shapes, angular shapes and lots of black and white at opposite poles."

Other important color statements for Lounging, she added, are grayed pastels, old rose, light blue and light green.

For emphasis, she noted, deep-purple, night blue, peacock, dark red and dark brown are other key colors.
