Fontenot named to WestPoint board

ATLANTA —

Only 13 months after joining WestPoint Stevens as president and coo, Chip Fontenot has been named to fill a vacant seat on the mill's board of directors.

The board named Fontenot to a seat left open by the resignation of Alfred Eckert III last August.

Fontenot will come up for election by shareholders to the board of directors at a later date.

"Since joining WestPoint Stevens in January 2001, Mr. Fontenot has done a masterful job of redirecting our sales and marketing performance and implementing a significant new business plan," said Holcombe Green Jr., chairman and ceo. "He has embodied all the attributes our board of directors was looking for in leadership for this company. Just as we were delighted to have him join the company, we are now delighted to have him join our board of directors."

A veteran of more than 30 years of experience in the home fashions and textiles industries, Fontenot began his career at Springs Industries, where he spent 20 years, including a stint as president of the company's Consumer Products division. Before joining WestPoint, he spent two years as president and coo for Dyersburg Corp. and earlier was chairman and ceo of Perfect Fit Industries.
