Newport expands bedding factory, to add new categories

Portland, OR — Dec pillow maker Newport Home Fashion is preparing to branch out into several new home textiles categories, with some launches slated for the fall 2003 New York Home Textiles Market.

During the fall market, which will take place in September, Newport plans to launch table linens, sheets, throws and bath accessories and shower curtains collections for the first time in the company's 12-year history.

And creeping up in importance is its growing bedding business — so much so that the company recently expanded its manufacturing and distribution facility here at headquarters to 50,000 square feet. Newport’s bedding business has doubled in sales over the past year, Whyte said. While the company won't specify the actual sales figures, Whyte said Newport obtained placements with seven new national accounts, as well as several independent retailers, and it has created product using "600,000 yards of wide fabric over the past 14 months."
