Wal-Mart to analysts: There’s no competition

Bentonville, Ark. – Wal-Mart Stores Inc. president and ceo Mike Duke today sounded familiar themes as he told analysts that no other company in the world can expand the way it can over the next few years.
"There is no retail competitor - here in the United States or anywhere in the world - that can deliver the kind of growth that Walmart can over the next several years," Duke said during the company’s 16th Annual Meeting for the Investment Community.
Executives from the $401 billion retailer have been assuring analysts about Wal-Mart’s growth prospects long before the retail chain hit its first $100 billion sales mark. Duke’s remarks today concentrated on the three key arrows in Wal-Mart’s strategic quiver: pursue aggressive growth, leverage the company’s global scale to reduce expenses, and boost the profitability of each operating segment.
"Each operating segment has a long-term plan to improve ROI [return on investment],” said Duke. “We plan to continue to produce significant free cash flow, which will drive our ROI performance and deliver greater shareholder value."
