KANNAPOLIS, NC —
After slightly less than two years as the man in the top spot, Tony Williams has resigned from his position as president and coo with Pillowtex Corp.
Williams' resignation is effective immediately. According to the company, he is leaving to pursue other interests.
Williams originally joined Pillowtex in May 2000 as executive vp and cfo. Months later, as the mill's financial problems worsened, he was named to succeed outgoing president Chuck Hansen.
"During his tenure at Pillowtex, Tony guided the company through a difficult period that included its reorganization and successful emergence from Chapter 11. We are indebted for his service to the company and wish him great success going forward," said David Perdue, chairman and ceo, who will assume Williams' responsibilities until a replacement is named.
