"Some call it the great outdoors," declared Barry Goodman, vp national accounts at Commonwealth Home Fashions. "in home decorating terms it's known as 'the fifth room.'"
For market, Goodman is putting the final touches on the company's expanded Outdoor Décor line, which features fade- and mildew-resistant fabrics in 100% spun polyester; the look champions stainless steel-plated grommets that he said reflect the overall themes of backyard gazebos, screened porches, decks, balconies and pool shacks.
Outdoor Décor this market is augmented with two styles: Bamboo, a yarn dye heavyweight grommet with a $49 retail target; and Escape, a voile grommet set to retail at $19. Both lines come in 84" and 96" lengths, and in multiple colorways.
Commonwealth, in another major initiative, offers a 100% organically grown cotton fiber curtain program under its O2 brand. "Even the packaging is made from the same fabricas the product it contains," said Goodman, "and the bag tie closure is made from eco-friendly raffia. He said the fibers use earth-friendly processes from start to finish.
O2 pole top panels come in woven plaids, stripes, checks and solids colors; the targeted retail is $39.99 for the 84" panels.
Newest of all from Commonwealth is its house Couture line, which Goodman said "makes the drama, function, and finish of custom-made drapery available to a mass audience."
A wide range of styles include textured fabrics, fashion-forward looks such as velvets, embroideries, and heavyweight wool blends. Retail pricing will range from $39.99 to $69.99.
"Couture Commonwealth means luxury is always within reach at ready made prices," said Goodman.
