Textiles Players Make Forbes List

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 1/3/2005 12:00:00 AM

It may have been a tough year for most American textiles companies and the retailers they sell their products to, but a handful of major players — including Mohawk Industries and Bed Bath & Beyond — managed to buck a soft economy, dominate their peers, and rise to the head of the class, joining Forbes Magazine's Dean's List of top American big companies.

Each year Forbes ranks the nation's 400 Best Big Companies, and then whittles down the list to the 55 top-performing companies who join the Dean's List.

Making the grade this year are textiles producer Mohawk Industries, and home fashions retailers Bed Bath & Beyond, Family Dollar, Kohl's, Lowe's and Home Depot.

Each has made the Dean's List since it made its first appearance in 1999.

Who gets selected and why? Forbes said: “To create the Forbes Platinum 400 — the Best Big Companies in America — we ran computer screens across 26 industries for companies with at least $1 billion in revenue and high rankings for corporate practices as well as long- and short-term sales and earnings growth and stock market performance.”
