ShopKo's Ramsey resigns

GREEN BAY, WI —

It was a brief stint for Gary Ramsey, who last week resigned as president and coo of ShopKo just five months after joining the regional discounter.

Ramsey left for personal reasons, the company said.

He will not be replaced, said Bill Podany, president and ceo of ShopKo Stores Inc. Instead, Podany will assume the responsibilities of Ramsey's functions.

The cause for Ramsey's departure was an "unexpected series of circumstances in his life that were unavoidable," Podany said, which are personal and private. Ramsey resigned, he emphasized, and was not terminated.

Ramsey's 35-year career in retailing prior to ShopKo included senior executive positions at Sears Roebuck & Company, Montgomery Ward, and, most recently, at Garden Ridge Corp.
